Moriba Jah

“Moriba's genuine enthusiasm and energy make him one of the most compelling speakers I've known. Moriba is much more than a speaker. He is a well respected doer, innovator, and leader in the field of Space Environmentalism and beyond.” — Steve Wozniak

Bio

Moriba Jah is an internationally recognized scientist, educator, and MacArthur Fellow known for pioneering work in space environmentalism. With deep expertise in space situational awareness and astrodynamics, Jah has dedicated his career to addressing the environmental challenges created by human activity in orbit.

His research and commentary have been featured by NatGeo, TIME, Bloomberg, NPR, BBC, ABC, CNN, WSJ, Wired, SpaceWatch Global, Space News, ROOM, and others.

Jah directs the Computational Astronautical Sciences and Technologies (CAST) group at The University of Texas at Austin, where he is a Professor of Aerospace Engineering and Engineering Mechanics. He holds the Mrs. Pearlie Dashiell Henderson Centennial Fellowship and mentors the next generation of space traffic experts at the intersection of engineering, policy, and ethics. He has authored more than 100 scientific articles, books, chapters, and op-eds.

In 2025, Jah delivered keynote talks at SXSW and the ITU’s AI for Good Global Summit, where he introduced GaiaVerse, the company he co-founded in 2024 with Daniele Love and William Strong.

GaiaVerse is a planetary-scale decision intelligence, regenerative a.i. platform rooted in uncertainty, traditional ecological knowledge, and systems justice. Its core engine, GaiaGraph, applies agentic AI to navigate complexity, reflect plural worldviews, and support decisions aligned with dignity, planetary repair, and long-term resilience. GaiaGraph is already in use across multiple pilot projects, including electric mobility logistics in Kenya, sanitation infrastructure in Ghana, and a global stewardship network through the IkigaiGraph.

He previously co-founded Privateer Space with Alex Felding and Steve Wozniak.

He has testified before Congress, spoken at TED and NATO, and contributed to international policy through the UN Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space. He founded the AAS Space Surveillance Committee, chaired the AIAA Astrodynamics Committee, and remains active in the IAF, IAA, RSE, IEEE, RAS, IAASS, and AAS. He also serves as Associate Editor for several scientific journals.

Jah’s work connects science, ethics, and public understanding. In recent years, he has stepped into the realm of AI and decision intelligence to confront global challenges at planetary scale. Through GaiaVerse, he and his team are advancing the use of agentic AI and knowledge graphs for celestial stewardship, shifting how humanity relates to orbit, space debris, and the critical systems that support life on Earth. His work is helping halt our path toward self-extinction by restoring foresight, responsibility, and ecological awareness to the way we design and govern Earth.
